Difficulties putting on Condoms
Durex easy-on Condom Sizes
Durex's Easy-on selection of condoms have been
specifically designed for increased comfort. They are wider at the
top, so it is easier to unroll the condom at the start. So most
of the range now is wider at the top, and easier to put on.
Check out our Durex
condoms comparison chart, for an easy to read review of
all the Durex condoms. The danger of slipping off has been kept
low also, by making the base of the condom narrower than the top.
The easy-on fit ensures that the condom really
is easier to put on than the older design.
Loosing an Erection
Some men might lose their erection when putting on a condom. The main
reason for this is that many men are nervous about
properly applying a condom. If you experience the problem once, it
could make you anxious the next time, and thereby increase the problem.
The best solution to the problem is to practice applying
the condom on your own first, and become comfortable
using and applying condoms, before you find yourself in
any sexual relationship.
Another essential step is to find a condom that is suitable
for you. Condoms vary quite a lot in size (length and width)
contrary to the common perception that one condom is as good as
another.
It's important to familiarise yourself with the differences between
condoms, and experiment with the different varieties to find something
that fits well. Make sure you check out or Durex
Comparison Chart for futher details.
Of course an alternative for vaginal sex, is to
use a female condom, a femidom. More information on femidoms is
available here.
Allergies to Latex Condoms
A low percentage of people experience an allergic reaction to
latex condoms. This can have an effect on both the wearer
and the partner. The allergy is usually noticed around
the moist areas of the genitals (the mucous membranes). The tissues
there may become itchy and tend to swell. The reasons
for the allergy are usually one of the following:
- the latex in the condom (rare)
- the chemicals used in manufacturing the condom
(more common)
- spermicide
If you or your partner experience an allergy, you can try other
condoms that are hypo-allergenic. Many of the condoms
in the Durex range are hypo-allergenic, and Durex Avanti the polyurethane
condom, is non-allergenic to the vast majority of people.
Condoms slipping off
In a small percentage of cases, the condom slips off during sex.
It is a good idea to keep an eye on the condom
now and again, to make sure that it's still in place! Also when
withdrawing from your partner, hold the condom in place at the base
to prevent it from slipping off.
Once again it is important to know what condom fits you
best, and if you need a tighter fitting condom, be sure
that you buy narrower condoms. Experiment and practice on your own,
to find out what fits you properly.
Condoms breaking during sex
Condoms are quite strong and durable, but can split during sex
if used improperly. Latex is easily damaged by anything
that is greasy or oily, and this can quickly cause holes
and tears to appear in the condom wall. Check out the section
on safe lubricants to make sure that you are using safe products.
Things that can quickly destroy latex include:
massage oil, suncream (that has been left on your skin),
foods containing fats or grease (including chocolate), vaseline
and many other common items that contain oil. Refer
to the safe sex lubricants section
for further infomation.
Storing condoms improperly could lead to breakage
Condoms that have been stored in hot conditions could
be more prone to breaking. This is especially important to
remember when in hot countries, where condoms could easily
become overheated. Store them in a cool place and
don't keep them in you pocket for any extended period of time, as
condoms stored in you pocket for an extended period would lead to
the deterioration of the latex.
Also be wary when opening the condom, that no sharp fingernails,
teeth or jewellery come in contact with the condom.
Other reasons for breakage, include not leaving enough
space at the teat-end to collect semem, when the man ejaculates.
Ensure that there is enough space at the teat-end of the condom,
when putting the condom on. You can achieve this by squeezing
the condom between your fingers and thumb.
